Strategic Plan for 2025–2028: A Bold Path Forward FOR BBSOCIE

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire (BBBSOCIE) is proud to unveil our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan—a bold new roadmap designed to deepen our impact, strengthen our communities, and ensure every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Rooted in our commitment to mentorship and innovation, this nonprofit strategic plan reflects both where we are now and where we aim to go. Over the next three years, we will expand our reach, adapt to evolving needs, and invest in programming that ignites the power and promise of the next generation.

“This plan is more than a document, it’s a commitment to listening deeply and acting intentionally,” said Sloane Keane, CEO of BBBSOCIE. “We’re charting a course that honors our past while propelling us into a future where mentorship continues to be a force for equity, belonging, and hope.”

Why Now: The Need for a New Vision

The challenges facing today’s youth—and those who support them—are evolving. In recent years, we’ve seen:

  • A rise in mental health concerns
  • Increased economic pressures on families
  • A growing need for meaningful connection and long-term support

At the same time, the
volunteerism landscape has shifted, with fewer people having the time, resources, or support needed to commit. These changes make it clear: the way we mentor must evolve too.

In response, BBBSOCIE saw this as a moment to pause, reflect, and reimagine. Our new strategic plan is a proactive, community-driven vision to ensure as the leaders in mentorship, we remain responsive, resilient, and ready for the future.

A Collaborative Process

This three-year roadmap was shaped by the very people we serve and work alongside every day. We engaged:

  • Staff
  • Board members
  • Mentors and mentees
  • Families, alumni, and donors
  • Community partners

Through surveys, focus groups, and an organizational self-assessment, we gathered input from over 100 voices across our region. We took an equity-centered approach, with special focus on uplifting historically underrepresented voices—especially those of youth and families. We’re deeply grateful to every person who shared their insights and ideas to help build a more inclusive future.

What We Learned

The community was clear: mentorship matters more than ever, and there’s still more we can do.

  • Youth and families want mentorship that goes beyond the one-to-one relationship, supported by resources like academic support, mental health services, and career exploration.
  • Volunteers want to feel equipped, supported, and part of a larger movement.
  • Partners want clarity on how to collaborate and make a long-term impact.

THE STRATEGIC VISION

Deepen Impact through Leading-Edge Mentorship Models that Encourage Community Participation and Volunteerism

Our vision is to create mentorship experiences that are impactful, inclusive, and future-focused. Over the next three years, we will:

  1. Deepen Impact: Serve more youth, families, and mentors—and do it better.
  2. Innovate Mentorship Models: Stay community-focused and adapt to evolving needs.
  3. Increase Volunteerism: Address barriers and inspire participation.

These priorities will shape how we allocate resources, measure outcomes, and engage the next generation of changemakers to advance the Big Brothers Big Sisters vision in bold new ways.
